Data Transmission

  1. Data transmission refers to the process of sending and receiving digital or analog data between two or more devices over a communication medium.

Types of Data Transmission

1. Simplex Transmission

  1. Data flows only in one direction.
  2. No two-way communication is possible.
  3. Example: Television broadcasting, Radio transmission.

2. Half-Duplex Transmission

    • Data flows in both directions, but only one at a time.
    • Devices take turns in sending and receiving data.
    • Example: Walkie-talkies, CB radios.

3. Full-Duplex Transmission

  1. Data flows in both directions simultaneously.
  2. Increases efficiency compared to half-duplex.
  3. Example: Telephone communication, Video calls.

Serial Transmission

  1. Data is sent bit by bit (one at a time) in sequence over a single communication channel.
  2. Slower but suitable for long-distance communication.
  3. Example: USB, RS-232 communication, Fiber optics.

Parallel transmission

  1. Multiple bits are transmitted simultaneously using multiple channels.
  2. Faster but limited to short distances due to signal interference.
  3. Example: Internal CPU communication, Older printer cables
