Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, also known as the Clean India Mission, is a nationwide cleanliness campaign initiated by the Government of India. It was launched on October 2, 2014, on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, with the goal of achieving a clean and open defecation-free India by October 2, 2019, which marked the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The campaign aims to address issues related to sanitation, hygiene, and cleanliness across the country. It emphasizes the construction of toilets, waste management, and the promotion of good hygiene practices. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan recognizes the importance of a clean environment in promoting health, improving the quality of life, and fostering economic development.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan aims to bring about a behavioral change in people’s attitudes towards cleanliness and hygiene. Various awareness campaigns are conducted to educate and motivate citizens to adopt clean and healthy practices.
4. Cleanliness in Public Spaces:
The initiative includes efforts to clean and maintain public spaces, including streets, parks, and tourist destinations. Community involvement and participation are encouraged to ensure the sustainability of cleanliness efforts.
5. Open Defecation-Free (ODF) India:

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has seen widespread participation from various sections of society, including government bodies, non-governmental organizations, businesses, and citizens. While significant progress has been made, there are ongoing efforts to sustain and expand the cleanliness and sanitation initiatives to achieve the broader goal of a Swachh Bharat.
